Examen — Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 24, 2026

Examen ("the App") is published by Radiant Solutions. This policy explains what data the App collects, where it goes, and what you control.

What is stored on your device

Your journal entries — every message in every reflection session — are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. They are not uploaded to, or stored on, any server we operate. If you delete the App, this data is deleted with it.

Your Gemini API key, AI model choice, and profile fields (name, gender, age, personal notes) are also stored locally on your device, in Apple's standard app preferences storage.

What is sent to Google's Gemini API

Examen uses your own Google Gemini API key to generate the AI guide's responses. Each time you run a reflection session, the following is sent to Google's Gemini API over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection:

This data is subject to Google's own privacy policy and terms for the Gemini API (ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms). We do not control how Google stores or processes this data once it is sent. Because you supply your own API key, these requests are billed to and associated with your own Google account, not ours.

Speech recognition

If you use the microphone to dictate a reflection, Examen prefers on-device speech recognition when your device supports it. If on-device recognition is unavailable, audio may be sent to Apple's servers to be transcribed, subject to Apple's privacy policy.

What we do not do

Your controls

You can review, edit, or delete your profile fields at any time in Settings. You can delete individual journal entries, or delete the App entirely to remove all locally stored data.

Children

Examen is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.

Not a substitute for professional care

Examen is an AI-guided reflection aid. It is not the Sacrament of Confession, not therapy, and not a substitute for a priest, licensed counselor, or spiritual director. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.

Terms of use

See our Terms of Use for what Examen is (and isn't), and how AI-generated content and crisis situations are handled.
